Modern manufacturing automation lines impose higher demands on label paper rolls. From electronics assembly to food and beverage packaging, high-speed label printers (speeds up to 300-400mm/second) require label materials with stable feeding performance and precise die-cutting accuracy to ensure continuous operation without interruption.
Standard label rolls consist of a core (paper or plastic, inner diameter typically 25mm or 76mm), face material, adhesive, and backing paper. Face material weight commonly ranges from 60-120g/m², with options including coated paper, thermal paper, or synthetic materials (PET/PP) depending on the application. Adhesive types include permanent, removable, and freezer-grade, selected based on surface material and environmental conditions.
Thermal labels require no ribbon, developing color directly through printhead heating, suitable for short-term logistics and price labels. Thermal transfer labels used with wax-based, resin-based, or mixed ribbons offer more durable printed images, ideal for long-term asset labels and medical device labels.
When selecting label rolls, verify compatibility with printer type (gap sensing or black mark sensing), roll diameter limitations, and paper path. Purchase through reputable channels, checking roll edge neatness, splice count, and adhesive penetration. Store in conditions that prevent moisture and heat, avoiding face material deformation or adhesive failure.
